Abstract

The objective of this study was to know effectiveness of basil leaf extract to ward the spesies and the number of fruit flies Bractocera spp trapped by attractant on red chilli plantation. The study was conducted in mature red chilli farming field. The field wide was approximately 1000 m2 at Kelurahan Alun Dua Kecamatan Pagar Alam Selatan Kota Pagar Alam from June up to September 2008, The experiment was arranged by Completely Randomized Blocked Design with five treatments and six replications. Parameters in this study were the number and the spesies of trapped fruit flies and Identification of fruit flies spesies. The result showed that the highest number of trapped fruit flies imago was 278 induvidues in green basil treatment, following by ME treatment 208 individues, chili extract treatment 73 induvidues and the least was 4 induvidues in control treatment. B. dorsalis and B. umbrosus fruit flies could be trapped by green basil, Metil Eugenol and chili extract treatments. Only a few of B. umbrosus can be trapped by green basil, Metil Eugenol and chili extract treatments.
