Abstract

Beauveria bassiana is a soil fungus commonly found in all over world. The fungus parasitizes insect under larval and imago phases. The research was aimemed at studying the effects of B. bassiana formulation in suppressing the P. xylostella population and its damaging effect in chinese cabbage planting. The reseach was conducted in chinese cabbage planting in Village Karya Baru, District Sukarame, Palembang from April to June 2006. the application was done when the crop aged 3, 8, 13 and 18 days after planting and the observation was done at the crop age of 5, 9, 13, 17 and 21 days after planting. The variables observed were insect population, damage intensity and crop production. The results showed that the highest damage intensity caused by P. xylostella was 4.67% found in farmer conventional plot. The lowest damage intensity was 1.81% found in plot treated with bio-insecticide formulation (mixture of rice mill by product, maize, B. bassiana and shrimp shell compost extract) The reseach concluded that the addition of bio-insecticide formulation (mixture or rice mill by product, maize, B. basssiana and shrimp shell compost extract) could suppress the damage intensity caused by P. xylostellci but could not significantly suppress the population larvae and pupae of P. xylostella. The production of chinese cabbage treated with B. bassiana and shrimp shell compost extract was higher than those without B. bassiana and shrimp shell compost extract treatment.
