Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, the teachers encountered a new problem, namely the covid-19 pandemic, the education sector was one of the areas affected by the emergence of the Covid-19 virus. The State Special School 01 Jambi City has also been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for grade VI deaf students. This study aims to find out how the pattern of interpersonal communication between teachers and deaf students in grade VI is in the teaching and learning process during the covid-19 pandemic. This study uses the theory of interpersonal communication patterns according to West & Turner, there are 3 types of interpersonal communication patterns of deaf teachers and students, namely Linear, Interactional, and Transactional. In conducting this research, data were obtained from in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies using qualitative research methods. The results of this study indicate that the most appropriate transactional communication pattern is used because all elements in the communication process are interconnected with each other.
