Abstract

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is a group of eye diseases and problems related to vision. In their activities, Dinkominfo Palembang employees use computers, laptops, smartphones, cameras and camcorders for 5-7 hours per day. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between the duration of the use of the Visual Display Terminal (VDT) with the incidence of CVS in the employees of the Palembang City Communication and Information Office. This research is quantitative with cross sectional study. Research respondents are employees who use VDT for at least 2 hours continuously. Respondents used as many as 82 people out of 100 employees Dinkominfo Palembang City. Eye refraction examination was carried out before filling out the questionnaire. Multivariate analysis was used to see the most influential variables being confounding. Employees with a duration of 4 hours using VDT were at risk for CVS as many as 44 people (86.3%) with a p-value of 0.001. A total of 38 people (84.4%) employees with eye refraction examination with ametropic status had a 1.48 times greater risk of developing CVS (CI 1.48 and p-value 0.011 < 0.05); 44 people (83.0%) employees with low ergonomics computer workstations have a 1.60 times greater risk of experiencing CVS (CI 1.60 and p-value 0.006 <0.05); as many as 35 people (85.4%) employees with smartphone screen positions <30 cm have a 1.45 times greater risk of experiencing CVS (CI 1.45 and p-value 0.014 <0.05); while the variable of using antiglare screen, indoor lighting, position of computer/laptop monitor, position of camera/handycam screen has no effect on CVS. There is a relationship between the duration of VDT use, eye refraction examination, Computer Workstation Ergonomics, smartphone screen position and CVS. Dinkominfo employees of Palembang City are expected to follow the 20/20/20 rule, which is every 20 minutes to rest, look at objects or objects that are about 20 feet away for 20 seconds to prevent CVS by using Eye Break software on computers/laptops and smartphones.
