Abstract
Telah dilakukan pembuatan tawas dari beberapa kaleng bekas minuman (Sprite, Pepsi dan Calpico) dengan berbagai pereaksi (KOH p.a, H2SO4 p.a (I), KOH p.a, H2SO4 teknis (II), KOH teknis, H2S04 p.a (III) dan KOH teknis, H2S04 teknis (IV)). Tawas yang dihasilkan dengan jumlah terbesar digunakan untuk menurunkan tingkat kekeruhan air sungai. Pengukuran kandungan aluminium dalam kaleng bekas dan tawas dilakukan secara spektroskopi serapan atom (SSA). Hasil analisis menunjukkan kandungan aluminium terbesar pada kaleng Calpico sebesar 25,17%. Dari ±lg kaleng Calpico dihasilkan tawas dengan jumlah terbesar pada pereaksi (I) sebanyak 14,661 g dan pada pereaksi (II) sebanyak 11,4868 g. Pada kondisi optimum berat tawas 3,5 gram dan waktu kontak 90 menit, tawas hasil penelitian mampu menurunkan kekeruhan air sungai sebesar 70,06% dan tawas pasaran mampu menurunkan kekeruhan air sungai sebesar 73,16%.
