Abstract
This study aims to explain the role of the Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa as an official institution tasked with maintaining and improving the existence of Bahasa Indonesian both domestically and internationally. In the era where it seems as if there are no borders between countries, with the rapid progress of globalization, the rules for foreigners entering Indonesia are made easier, for that Bahasa Indonesian must be even stronger to strengthen Indonesian culture amid the influence of other cultures in the world. BPP Bahasa as an institution that oversees linguistic activities has a responsibility to play a role in strengthening the existence of Indonesian and making Bahasa Indonesia to be international language through UKBI and BIPA policies. This study uses the concept of Soft Diplomacy as a rationale. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive approach to explain the phenomenon in depth through data analysis steps by utilizing concepts as explanatory material. The source of data collected by the author is secondary data obtained or collected from various existing sources, especially from the results of the annual report of the Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa. The results of this study indicate that BPP Bahasa has succeeded in carrying out its role well, through UKBI and BIPA these activities have had a real impact on the introduction of Bahasa Indonesia to the international Language, this proven with the number of foreign learners and the number of countries teaching Indonesian continues to increase every year even during the pandemic still able to managed. The goals of soft diplomacy have also been achieved through UKBI and BIPA activities, including economic goals, cultural goals, and ideological goals.
