Abstract
A study the preparation of natural bentonite pillared of AI2O3 and thermal stability test. The study was conducted to determined the concentration of sulfuric acid for activation of bentonite, determine the mole ratio of NaOH/AlCh and best adsorption time on the intercalation of bentonite, as well as determine the best time and temperature on the thermal stability test. The sample preparation was done by natural bentonite refluxed with variations of H2SO4 concentration. The result of adsorption show the best adsorption of pyridine was found in bentonite that was refluxed with concentration of H2SO4 2 M with a value of acidity of 1.7225 mmol/g, neutralized with aquadest to be intercalated by using kegging AI2O3 then adsorbed back with pyridine and the best adsorption is OH/A1 1 : 2.2 as many as 5 mmol. Natural bentonite has been pillared that was calcined by the microwave with the best calcination time was during 10 minutes and continued with thermal stability test. Thermal stability test with cracking reactor showed the best acidity value result with pyridine adsorption is testing for 1 hour at 400°C temperature.
