Abstract
Conversion of cyclohexanone to produce adipic acid via oxidation reaction by H2O2 with natural mineral catalysts (zeolite and bentonite) has been carried out. Catalysts zeolite and natural bentonite before and afiter reaction characterized using spectrophotometer FT-IR and difractometer X-ray. Product of conversion was characterized through the determination of melting point, identification using GC-MS, and spectrophotometer FT-IR. The results showed that the use of catalysts zeolite and natural bentonite in the conversion of cyclohexanone with H2O2 can not produce adipic acid but another compound that have vibration C-H aliphatic, O-H dan C-O . Diffaktogram XRD and spectra FT-IR showed a difference significant on both catalysts before and after catalytic reaction. The diffraction of 20 from 20 - 30 indicated reaction occurs in the natural catalyst zeolite not only in the surface but also involves in the pore zeolite. In contrast, the natural bentonite reaction occurs only on the surface while diffraction appearat 20 0 - 60 . Spectra FT-IR from catalysts after reaction changed at wavenumber above 1000 cm"1, which indicated the vibration of organic compound the slightly difference appeared at wavenumber 1600 cm'1 due to binding of reactan in the zeolite surface which FT-IR spectrum of natural bentonite is not significant different before and after reaction.
