Abstract
The objective of this research was to find out the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3) application on fruit formation and fruit quality of Zalacca. The corel has been conducted in experimental station of SPP/SPMA Sembawa, Banyuasin regency from April to September 2005. The research was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) which consisted of two factors and six replications. The First factor was pollination ; pollinated (Bi) and not pollinated (Bo). The second factor was GA3 concentration ; which were 50 ppm GA3 (Gi), 75 ppm GA3 (G2) and 100 ppm GA3 (G3). Parameters observed were fruit setting (days), fruit number per bunch (fruit), fruit weight per fruit (g), fruit weight per bunch (g), fruit volume (ml), flesh thick (mm), seeds per fruit and seed weight per fruit (g). The results showed that pollinated salacca trees produced significantly more fruit per bunch (20,51 fruits), fruit weight per bunch (541,63 g) and seeds weight per fruit (8,05 g) as compared to unpollinated trees. Unpollinated trees without gibberellic acid application produced fruits, although the fruit were not as good as fruit from pollinated trees. Pollinated trees sprayed with gibberellic acid at 75 ppm produced the most fruit per bunch (17,83 fruit), the heaviest fruit weight per bunch (456,10 g) and the most seeds per fruit (7,73 g) as compared to other treatments, 50ppm and 100 ppm GA3. Pollinated trees without gibberellic acid application significantly produced more fruit per bunch (40,34 fruits), fruit weight per fruits (28,28 g), fruit weight per bunch (1134,73 g), the most seed per fruit (2,86 seeds) and the heaviest seeds weight per fruit (11,55 g).
