Abstract

This study entitled "The Life of the Javanese Transmigrant Community in Surya Adi Village, Mesuji District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency in 1975-2005" The problem of this research is how the development of social, economic, and cultural life in the Javanese transmigrant community in Surya Adi Village in 1975 -2005 and what factors affect the welfare of the Javanese transmigrants in Surya Adi Village. The purpose of this research is to explain the development of social, economic, and cultural life of the Javanese transmigrants in Surya Adi Village in 1975-2005. The method used is a historical research method which includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results obtained in this study are the opening of Surya Adi Village by the Javanese Transmigrant Society in 1975 through local transmigration. The main motive of the Javanese transmigrants who transmigrate to Surya Adi Village is the economic motive to achieve a more prosperous life. In the social aspect, the Javanese transmigrant community in Surya Adi Village experienced changes in education and social activities. Changes in the economic aspect of the Surya Adi Village Community are based on noble plantations processed by the Surya Adi Village Cooperative. In maintaining the stability and existence of their tribal culture, the Transmigrant Society of Surya Adi Village preserves its culture, namely Surooan, Wayang Kulit, Kuda Lumping, and Karawitan. The factors that affect the welfare of the Javanese transmigrant community in Surya Adi Village consist of internal factors and external factors. Internal factors include, the leadership model of the Javanese community, and the education of the Javanese community. External factors include government policies, technological advances, and information.
