Abstract

The objectives of the research was to investigate the effects of the stage of rubber seedling and inoculation method on Fusarium sp., the causal agent of stem and branch rot disease. The research was conducted from February to May 2010 in the Laboratory of Phytopathology and greenhouse of Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Inderalaya. The research was experimental and was arranged in a Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design. The flrst factor was the stage of rubber seedling consisted of two months (A), four months (B), and six months (C). The second factor was inoculation method consisted of two levels, sprayed (a) and inserted (b). Each treatment block contained two plants and the treatments were replicated three times. The results showed that the age of rubber seedling and inoculation method of Fusarium sp significantly effected incubation period, disease severity, and number of dropped leaf, but no significant interaction between the two factors. The incubation period ranged from 8 to 14 days with the highest incubation period was found in two months old rubber seedling aged two months,while the lowest was found in rubber seedling aged six months. The highest disease severity was 75.92% and was found in two months old rubber seedling, while the lowest was 53.87% found in rubber seedling aged six months. The highest percentage of leaf fail was found in two months old rubber seedling amounted to 71.8%, while the lowest was found in rubber seedling aged six m months amounted to 37.85%.
