Abstract

Ernaldi Bahar Hospital Palembang is one of the Special Hospitals in the city of Palembang which is included in the Class A Hospital with services equivalent to General Hospitals. Hospitals (health services) are one of the largest contributors to waste, which is almost 80% in the form of general waste and 20% in the form of hazardous waste that may be infectious, toxic or radioactive. 15% of infectious waste or body tissue waste, 1% of sharps waste, 3% of chemical and pharmaceutical waste, and 1% of genotoxic and radioactive waste. This study aims to determine the management of medical waste at the Ernaldi Bahar Hospital in Palembang. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach with a total of 7 informants. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews, observation and document review. The results of this study indicate that the characteristics of solid medical waste are in the form of solid medical waste originating from the health care unit and hospital medical support. The solid medical waste generated is about 40.63 kg/day. Ernaldi Hospital has not made efforts to minimize waste optimally at the source of the waste. The implementation of solid medical waste management such as destruction has not met the requirements. It is recommended to the Ernaldi Bahar Hospital to increase knowledge about solid medical waste management to officers by providing training on medical waste management and increasing the qualifications of incinerator equipment in hospitals.
