Abstract
A phenolic compound was isolated from dichloro methane fraction of the stem bark of Garcinia bancana Miq. The extraction was done by maceration method and separation of isolated compound was conducted by chromatographic technique. Isolated compound is yellow powder with melting point 240-242°C. The structure of these compound wher determined on the basis of spectroscopic data including UV, IR, 'H NMR, 13C NMR, NMR1-D and 2-D NMR, DEPT, HMQC, HMBC, COSY and by direct comparison with those of reported data. Based upon spectral data analysis could be concluded that isolated compound is phenol of xanthone type, that is l,5-dihydroxy-6’,6’-dimethylpyTano (2’,3’: 2,3) xanthone. The result of isolation coumpound showed that activity as anti bacteria to Escherichia coli and Shigela disentri and assign value IC5o 2500 ppm and 500 ppm.
