Abstract

A xanthone compound was isolated frora ethyl acetate fraction of fhiits mangosteen extract (Garcinia mangostana L ). The extraction was done by maceration method then was separation and purification was conducted by chromatographic technique. Isolated compound was yellow powder. The structure of this compound was determined with NMR I-D and 2-D. Based on spectral data analysis could be concluded that isolated compound was xanthone, ( 1,3,5 trihidroksi-7-metoksi-2,8-diprenilsanton ). This pure compounds can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Shigella dysentriae. Activity against Escherichia coli extract was concentrated and a half time the antibacterial activity of pure compounds. Antibacterial activity of concentrated extract of Shigella dysentriae at a concentration of 0.5%, 2%, and 4% when compared with the pure compound is there times the antibacterial activity of pure compounds.
