Abstract

Background: Green betel leaf and musa paradisiaca flower have tannins, flavonoids and saponins contents that could increase the collagen thickness in the process of wound healing. Some studies reported that the components could accelerate wound healing. Purpose: To compare the effectiveness of green betel leaf and musa paradisiaca flower extract gel to the collagen thickness after tooth extraction of Wistar rats. Metode: This research was experimental laboratory research with posttest only control group design. Twenty four rats were divided into 6 groups, which each group consisted of 4 rats. The incisors mandibular of the rats were extracted using the needle holder. Gel extract and gel placebo were applied to the socket twice a day. Group 1, 3, and 5 were given gel for 3 days and will be euthanasia on 4th day, group 2, 4, and 6 were given gel for 7 days and will be euthanasia on 8th day. Tissue of tooth socket were taken and histological preparation were made. The thickness of collagen were measured using a microscope in 3 visual fields with 100x magnification using Olympus software and analyzed statistically. Results: The collagen thickness increased in all groups on the 7th day compared to the 3rd day (p<0,05) with the highest average collagen thickness was showed by the green betel leaf extract gel groups. Conclusion: Green betel leaf extract gel could effectively increase collagen thickness than musa paradisiacal flower extract gel after tooth extraction of wistar rats.
