Abstract

Washing is a process with the aim of improving the quality of coal with the principle of reducing ash content. This study used coal samples with high ash content. Shaking table, is a mineral separation tool that utilizes fluid motion with a thin flow of water and the beat of the table to separate minerals from impurities. The working principle of the shaking table uses fluid flow, where the fluid flow is flowed horizontally. This study aims to determine the effect of grain size and deck slope on the shaking table on the reduction of coal ash content produced according to standards as fuel for Steam Power Plants.In this study, the initial coal proximate test was found that the volatie matter (%) was 18%, the water content was 23%, the ash content was 20% and the calorific value was 2972 Kcal/Kg. Based on this research, the higher the slope angle of the deck, the lower the ash content, as well as the yield value which tends to be lower. On the influence of the deck slope, the best content is found on the deck slope of 1.90˚ at an ash content of 7%. While the grain size in this study resulted that the larger the grain size used, the lower the ash content, as well as the yield value which tended to be lower. In the influence of grain size, the best content is found on the deck slope of 1.90˚ at 7% ash content. Based on this study, the best grade was obtained in the second experiment with a grain size of 4 mesh on a deck slope of 1.51˚ of 7.5% with a yield of 44.96%.
