Abstract
South Sumatra is a province that has big fishery potential. In meeting their daily needs, the community has made various innovations in processing natural resources, one of the forms of business carried out by residents of Tebing Gerinting Area, South Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir is by processing fish into kemplang. In the era of industrial revolution 4.0, Tebing Gerinting community still used traditional methods to produce. This thesis aims to know the history and socio-economic development the community of Tebing Gerinting in the period 2004-2008. This research uses historical methods to trace various events that have passed, data collection is done by observation and interviews with sources who deal directly with the production of kemplang. The results show that the emergence of kemplang commodities in this region has a relationship with natural conditions in the Tebing Gerinting Area. The socio-economic development of kemplang craftsmen depends on their position and status in the kemplang production process. Not many changes have occurred to the craftsmen of Tebing Gerinting until now, the community still maintains traditional methods and factors of production.
