Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the role performed by Machmud Hasjim as rector of Sriwijaya University in the period 1994-1999 in his initial efforts to implement the Link And Match program, the transfer of the Palembang campus to the Indralaya Campus, the Establishment of the Postgraduate Program, and building facilities and infrastructure and human resources and Building a campus life that is religious. The method used in this study is the historical method or historical method. Historical or historical steps are divided into four steps, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, while the data collection techniques that researchers use are using literature studies and interviews. The benefits of this research theoretically can contribute ideas for further research interested in examining the role of leaders in the field of education and can add insight into the role of Machmud Hasjim in the construction of the University of Srivijaya so as to make an interesting discussion to be studied. Practically the benefits obtained from the results of this study are that it can be used as a reference for research related to the role of other leaders who contribute to the development of Sriwijaya University and the history of the development of Sriwijaya University created by the Historical Education Study Program. Special courses for Sriwijaya University are useful to foster a sense of pride in the alma mater and increasingly add diligence in achievement.
