Abstract

People in Ogan Ilir Regency use traditional medicine in the treatment of various degenerative diseases. Antioxidants serve as an antidote to free radicals in the body that can prevent oxidative damage in the body. The study aimed to find out the antioxidant activity and total flavonoid levels as well as the characterization of sample extracts that had the highest antioxidant activity. The study used the DPPH free radical damping method (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) as well as a colorimetric method to determine total flavonoid levels. The results showed the value of IC50 and the total flavonoid levels of medicinal plant extracts, among others, namely extracts of bark (S. aqueum), leaves (S. polyanthum), herb (E. hirta), leaves (S. aqueum), herb (P. ninuri), leaves (A. bilimbi), herb (O. aristatus), rhizome (Z. officinale), lemongrass stems (C. citratus), leaves (A.muricata), rhizomes (C. zanthorrhiza), herbs (A. paniculata), herbs (A. graveolens), and fruit (M. citrifolia), consecutively, 16,91 μg/mL dan 26,03 mgQE/g, 87,99 μg/mL dan 23,89 mgQE/g, 108,04 μg/mL dan 17,78 mgQE/g, 176,61 μg/mL dan 22,08 mgQE/g, 241,56 μg/mL dan 23,55 mgQE/g, 423,09 μg/mL dan 22,74 mgQE/g, 504,68 μg/mL dan 17,67 mgQE/g, 585,26 μg/mL dan 16,05 mgQE/g, 1121,05 μg/mL dan 16,53 mgQE/g, 1131,61 μg/mL dan 15,32 mgQE/g, 1505,66 μg/mL dan 13,80 mgQE/g, 2419,63 μg/mL dan 13,47 mgQE/g, 2985,01 μg/mL dan 11,38 mgQE/g, dan 5042,51 μg/mL dan 0,65 mgQE/g. The results of the correlation test showed that antioxidant activity with total flavonoid levels was negatively correlated, meaning that the greater the total flavonoid content, the smaller the IC50 value. Characterization of sample extracts that have the highest antioxidant activity meets the requirements of the Depkes RI 2008 and Kemenkes RI 2017.
