Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of plants, the parts of the plants used, the benefits of plants as traditional medicines, and how to process plants as traditional medicines by the Malay community in Jejawi sub-district, Ogan Komering Ilir district. The research was conducted in August - December 2021. The research method used was descriptive method with purposive sampling technique on six traditional healers (Battra) from three villages in Jejawi sub-district. Data were collected by interview, observation, and documentation. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, plants used as traditional medicines obtained 32 types of plants belonging to 24 tribes, 20 nations, 2 classes, and 2 plant divisions. Parts of plants that are used as traditional medicine are the leaves as many as 19 types of plants (54.29%), the stems as many as 3 types of plants (8.57%), the flowers as much as 1 type of plant (2.86%), the fruit as much as 4 types of plants (11.43%), tubers as many as 3 types of plants (8.57%), and rhizome parts as many as 5 types of plants (14.29%). Plants from the Zingiberaceae tribe are the most widely used as traditional medicine. How to use plants for traditional medicine that is boiled, pounded, grated, chopped, and pressed - press. While the way to use plants for traditional medicine is to drink, eat directly, soak, and smeared. Types of diseases that can be cured with medicinal plants are 24 types of diseases. The results of this study are expected to provide data related to the types of traditional Malay medicinal plants in the Jejawi sub-district and as a source of learning for the community and students of class X High School (SHS) in learning Biology in the main material, namely Plantae with Basic Competence (BC) 3.7 Apply the principle of classification to classify plants into divisions based on observations of plant morphology and metagenesis and relate their role in the survival of life on earth. Donations are given in the form of a booklet. Key word: Traditional medicine, Malay ethnic, Jejawi district, Medicinal plants.
