Abstract

The research on the association of non-coral macrozoobenthos to the coral reef was conducted in September in the Nias Island waters, Nias Regency, North Sumatra Province. The aim of this research was to observe the association between non coral macrozoobenthos to coral reef which include percentage of coral reef covering and abundance of every non coral macrozoobenthos found on the Nias Island Waters. The Line Intercept Transect (LIT) and BELT Method which taken place in three observation stations. The Observation showed that the condition of coral reef in the area of study can be classified into medium to damage condition. This also affects the abundance of non coral macrozoobenthos which is also very low. The highest percentage of covering is located in Station 3 with coverage percentage of 43,77 %. The high level of coral reef covering percentage in this station also followed by high level of abundance of non coral macrozoobenthos. The Highest number recorded is represent by Diadema setosum which consisted of 778 individuals/ha.
