Abstract
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mempelajari kombinasi kolang-kaling dan lilin lebah yang dapat membentuk edible film komposit dan mempelajari karakteristik edible film komposit dari kolang kaling dan lilin lebah. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Kimia Hasil Pertanian, dan Laboratorium Fitopatologi Fakultas Pertanian, pada bulan Oktober 2005 sampai Juli 2006. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial dengan dua perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan pertama adalah konsentrasi kolang-kaling (2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, dan 10%) dan perlakuan kedua adalah konsentrasi lilin lebah (0%, 0,5%, 1% dan 1,5%). Parameter yang diamati meliputi kadar air, ketebalan, kuat tarik, persen perpanjangan, warna, laju transmisi uap air dan mikrostruktur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi kolang-kaling dan konsentrasi lilin lebah berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar air, ketebalan, persen perpanjangan, kuat tarik, laju transmisi uap air, warna dan mikrostruktur. Ketebalan meningkat dengan penambahan konsentrasi kolang-kaling dan lilin lebah, sedangkan laju transmisi uap air, kuat tarik, persen perpanjangan menurun dengan penambahan konsentrasi kolang-kaling dan lilin lebah. Perlakuan terbaik adalah konsentrasi kolang-kaling 2,5% dan lilin lebah 1,5% karena edible film komposit yang dihasilkan mempunyai kadar air rendah, ketebalan rendah, dan laju transmisi uap air yang rendah.
