Abstract
Development of tidal measurements has been carried out since the ineffectiveness of previous tools. A result of measurement tools had been developed form manual into digital data. Microcontroller and ultrasonic sensors can be integrated as tide gauges for easy utility. This research aims to design a digital tide gauges using ultrasonic sensors with a microcontroller-based and to test in the laboratory and in the field. This research is designing shaped which was implemented in May to June 2012 in the laboratory of remote sensing, marine acoustic and instrumentation. The test was done in two stages. The flrst stage in the laboratory for distance detection accuracy by the ultrasonic sensor, the second stage in the field to determine the ability of the ultrasonic sensor to read tidal pattems. Laboratory test results are 0,37% of average error. Field trials indicate tidal pattems by designed tool were not different with another as a control. Tidal pattems of the data obtained at the three test sites were diumal tide. Trials that have been done show the designed tool frorn a ultrasonic sensor with microcontroller-based had been successfully designed and capable for tidal measuring with maximum range 2.5 meters.
