Abstract

The extraction of chitin from snail shell and the separation of cellulose Oryza Sativa has been carried out. The extraction and separation product was characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy and XRD difractometer. Chitin and cellulose were modified by impregnation process using thiourea and then used to adsorbed Cu (II) ion in aqueous solution. The adsorption was studied by variation of interaction time, concentration, and sequential desorption. The FT-IR spectrum of chitin has fiinctional groups -NH and -OH and cellulose has -OH as main function group with vibration in wavenumber 3425.58 cm'1. The XRD pattem of chitin show that chitin in crystalline where cellulose in amorphous structure. No FR-IR spectal different fo cellulose, chitin, and impregnation. The characteristic of impregnation can be seen from XRD pattem. Adsorption rate constant of Cu (E) ion follow in the order chitin-cellulose > chitin > cellulose. Adsorption capacity had different value and follow the order chitin-cellulose > chitin > cellulose. Sequential desorption of Cu (II) on impregnated chitin-cellulose show highest percentage by EDTA. The total amount of desorption is 5.38 % and show complex formation as adsorption mechanism in impregnated chitin-cellulose.
