Abstract
The secondary metabolites have been isolated from nonpolar fraction of methanol extract of Gynura pseudochina (Lour) DC plants. The extraction was done by maseration. Separation and purification were done by column chromatography. The isolated compound was a white solids with melting point 123 °C-125°C. The structure of this compound was determined based on spectral evidence including IR, 13C-NMR, 'H-NMR, HSQC, HMBC and COSY. The spectral data analysis were suggested that the isolated compound is a mixture of two steroids which is stigmast-5-en-3-ol or (3-sitosterol as a major compound. The analgesic activity of the isolated compound was tested in male mice by writhing test method with 1% acetic acid as the pain-inducer. The isolated compound showed that pain-inhibition activity were 56,2 % for 2 mg/20 g BB dose and 67 % for 4 mg/20 g BB dose. The analgesic activity of the isolated compound is lower thanthe aspirin.
