Abstract

Synthesis of nanocomposite chitosan-Ti02 have been done. Nanocomposite made of chitosan was isolated from crab shell as chitosan-a and squid pens as chitosanp. The nanocomposite was applied for photodegradation of methylene blue in aqueous medium. Nanocomposite has synthesized by combining the function of chitosan as supporting material and Ti02 that have high photocatalytic activity. The characterization of nanocomposite chitosan-Ti02 with FTER and SEM/EDX analysis showed the functional groups and surface morphology of the nanocomposite chitosan-Ti02. FTIR spectra shows adsorption band of O-Ti-O at 677-695 cm'1, and characteristic of adsorption band from chitosan at wavenumbers 1600 cm'1 for -NH2 and 3400 cm'1 for -OH. From SEM/EDX analysis can be seen that Ti02 has been distributed evenly on srnface of chitosan. Nanocomposite chitosan-Ti02 from crab shell and squid pens able to photodegrade of methylene blue in aqueous medium by UV light irradiated at optimum wavelength 660 nm and produces perccnt photodegradation are 59,48% and 59,82%, respectively.
