Abstract

A xanthone cornpound was isolated from ethyl acetate fraction of stem bark asam kandis (Garcinia cowa). The extraction was done by maceration method and separation and purification of isolated cornpound was conducted by chromatographic technique. The structure of this cornpound was determined based on spectroscopic data such as including UV, IR, NMR 1-D and to compared with data base. Based on spectral data analysis could be concluded that isolated cornpound is xanthone, that is l,3,6-trihidroksi-7-metoksi-2-(3-metilbut-2-enil)-8-(3,7-dimetil-2,6-oktadienil)santon (cowanin). Isolated cornpound is yellow powder with melting point 136-137 °C. The rendemen is 0.12 %. Antioxidant activity test was conducted by using DPPH method with a Standard cornpound of vitamin C. The value of IC50 isolation cornpound and vitamint C are 22,95 pg/mL and 12,57 pg/mL respectively and the results of Isolation cornpound is active antioksidant.
