Abstract
Ozone gas (O3) is a toxic material that has a sharp odor that can cause problems for human health, especially in respiratory complaints. One source of Ozone comes from photocopiers in printing. The study aimed to analyze the effect of ozone gas levels in the printing workspace environment on respiratory complaints in printing workers. The study used cross sectional design. The sample in the study was 79 workers from 8 printing industries. The results showed that there was 1 printing (12,5%) had Ozone levels that exceeded the threshold value of 0.1 ppm and the majority of workers experienced respiratory complaints, namely as many as 65 people (82,3%) and did not experience any complaints at all as many as 14 workers (17,7%). The results of bivariate analysis using chi square tests showed that ozone levels did not have a statistically significant association with respiratory complaints in workers with a value of P = 0.657 (95% CI 0.134 - 3.924). It is also known that age, duration of work, working period, work position and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) do not have a statistically significant association with respiratory complaints in workers. But smoking has a risk of 4.271 times to experience respiratory complaints with a p value of 0.039 (95% CI 1.206 - 15.120). This type of ventilation statistically also affects ozone levels in eligible air. It is recommended that printing workers pay more attention to the type of ventilation used and reduce the smoking habits of workers.
