Abstract

Methylene blue adsorption studies on humin reported in this research. The purpose of this research is to determine adsorption of methylene blue on humin at the contact time variation, particle size, concentration, pH and to determine the influence of functional groups humin and methylene blue. Analysis of methylene blue concentration was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and analysis of the influence of adsorption of functional groups using IR spectrophotometer. The results obtained showed adsorption of methylene blue on humin increased with increasing contact time, particle size, concentration but did not apply to pH. Humin optimum adsorption of methylene blue obtained at the time of 300 minutes, 140 mesh particle size, concentration of methylene blue 100 ppm and pH 7. The corresponding kinetics adsorption and isotherms adsorption of humin to the adsorption of methylene blue following pseudo second-order kinetics model with R2= 0,9314 and Freundlich equilibrium model with R2 = 0.9917. Wavenumber shift in spectrum humin after methylene blue adsorbed mainly on the wave number 3129.6 cm'1, 2949.5 cm'1, 1641.2 cm'1, 1524.6 cm"1, 1402.7 cm'1, 775.3 cm 5 702.4 cm 1 and 653 J cm"1 which indicated the existence of Chemical bonding interactions between functional groups on the adsorbent and adsorbate.
