Abstract
The research about the distribution of total mercury in water and sediments in Rupit River has done. This research aims to determine the concentration of total mercury in water and sediments in Rupit River and examine the distribution of total mercury in the location of the upper, middle and lower reaches in Rupit River. Analysis of mercury in water and sediments using the method of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry Cold Vapour (CV-AAS) batch System. The results of research showed that mercury concentration in water samples in the location of the upper, middle and lower were 2.10 ng/mL, 2.33 ng/mL and 2.19 ng/mL. The average concentration of total mercury in water in Rupit River was 2.21 ng/mL. Other results showed that mercury concentration in sediment samples in the location of the upper, middle and lower were 209.56 ng/g, 2207.41 ng/g and 213.02 ng/g dry weight. The average concentration of total mercury in sediments in Rupit River was 876.66 ng/g dry weight. Location of the upper as control concentrations of mercury was smaller compared to the location of the middle and lower reaches. The average concentration of total mercury in water in Rupit River had passed the threshold value of 1 ng/mL. The average concentration of total mercury in sediments in Rupit River had passed the threshold value of 174 ng/mL dry weight.
