Abstract
The purpose of this study was to design, make, and test design of grass and paddy straw crushing machine prototype using disk knive. This research was conducted in January 2019 until April 2019 at the Machine Laboratory Workshop of the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University.This research method used a technical design that was presented in the form of tables, images and graphics. The implementation of this research was carried out using three stages, namely the stages of the design approach, the stages of manufacture and assembly, and the stages of structural and functional design testing and performance testing. The parameters observed in this study were the effective capacity of the tool (kg/hour), theoretical capacity (kg/hour), work efficiency of the tool (%), fuel consumption (l/hour), chopped results (%).The test results showed the working capacity of chopped was 1.39 kg / hour for rice straw material and for grass chopped of 1.301 kg / hour. The percentage of chopped ingredients produced 64.5% rice straw and 63% for grass material. The results of the process of choppedrice straw and grass were about 2 cm in size. Fuel consumption was 0.787 l / hour. Keywords:Rice straw, organic fertilizer and crushing machine.
