Abstract
The research area is included into 2 sub-district, which area Barangin and Talawi sub-district, Sawahlunto, West Sumatera.. The purpose of this research is to identify the geomorphology classification that exist in the research area, to identify the sequence of stratigraphy in the research area, to identify the geological structure in the research area, the identify the potential of shalestone within Sangkarewang Formation which is has a role as the potential hydrocarbon Source Rock, and reconstruct the geological history of establishment of the research area. The research metode includes preliminary study, field study, data processing and studio, interpretation, and synthesis. The research area is divided into five unit of geomorphological land form which are denudational of low land with flat – sloping slopes, denudational of low hills with moderately steep – steep slopes, denudational of footslopes with steep – very steep slopes, channel-irregular meander, and anthropogenic lake. The stratigraphy of research area are consists of limestone member of silungkang formation, Brani Formation and Sangkarewang Formation, Sawahlunto Formation, Sawahtambang Formation, Ranau Formation. Limestone member of Silungkang Formation is the basement of research area with the age of Carbon – Permian. At the time of Paleocene, the Brani Formation deposited interfingering with the Sangkarewang Formation and then deposited unconformity above the basement. At the Eocene, deposited the meandering river of Sangkarewang Formation which having the unconformity relation with Sangkarewang Formation. At the Oligocene, Sawahtambang Formation was deposited at the braided river environment with the unconformity relation above the Sawahlunto Formation. Ranau Formation with the youngest age is the last depositional process of research area at the Pleistocene. Geological structure which features at the research area are fold and fault structures which are reverse fault of Prambanan, Talawi syncline, Sikalang anticline, Sijantang syncline, and Malakutan anticline. Shalestone of Sangkarewang Formation at the research area has been fulfilled the parameters as the source rock which are rich of organic material, kerogen type which showing the kerogen type I and II which means producing the hydrocarbon of oil ang gas, also the thermal maturity process has occurred with the prove of crude oil discovery at the old exploration well and the availability of oil seepage in the research area.
