Abstract

Acetylation reaction upon ursolic acid and its isomer oleanolic acid, which were isolated from tembesu fruit {F. fragrans Roxb\ had been carried out by using tetrahydrofuran (THF), acetic acid anhydride and pyridine. Acetylated compounds, 3-acetyl-urson-12-en-28-oic acid and 3-acetyl-olean-12-en-28-oic acid, are white solid having melting point 190-193°C with 37% yield. Antibacterial activity of acetylated compounds were tested using disc diffusion method against tested bacteria Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus substilis and Shigella dysentriae. Test result of antibacterial activity of acetylated compounds at concentration 200 ppm displayed no inhibitory zone against tested bacteria S. aureus (0 nm), and B.substilis (0 nm), but they displayed inhibitory zone against tested bacteria S.dysentriae (8 nm) and E.coli (10 nm).
