Abstract

The titel of this research is the pattern of intercultural communication in the process of assimilation in inter ethnic marriage between batak toba and jawa in lubuk raman village rambang dangku sub-district. Culture is a view that aims to teach people how to adapt to their environment. According to Edward Burnett Tylor (1832) culture is a complex system that includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs, abilities, and habits acquired by humans as members of society. This research uses qualitative methods with in-depth interviews and observation teachniques. The supporting theory used face Nrgotiation theory which focuses on intercultural communication patterns. The data used in the form of primary and secondary data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires and documentation carried out in the lubuk raman village community, rambang dangku sub-disrict. Based on data that has been analyzed by in-depth interviews and observations, states that the assimilation process occurs by the fusion of two cultures, so that the parties or residents of two or three groups who have been assimilated will feel a single culture that is felt as common property and intercultural communication that occurs between couples of different cultures through the process of introduction. until marriage is passed by a couple of different cultures. Their relationship developed from not knowing each other, becoming a friendship relationship so that they became closer and their relationship continued to the level of marriage.
