Abstract

Background: Inflammation is the body's initial response to tissue damage caused by trauma, exposure to toxins, or infection. One of the natural ingredients that have anti-inflammatory potential is catfish oil. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of catfish oil gel in affecting the number of neutrophil cells in male white rats of the wistar strain induced by carrageenan. Method: In vivo study with a pretest posttest control group design was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya University and Palembang Clinical Laboratory Center. Thirty rats were divided into 5 groups, namely Groups I, II, and III were given 5%, 10%, and 20% catfish oil gel, group IV was given 0.2% hyaluronic acid gel and group V was given placebo gel. Rats were induced by 0.1 ml carrageenan solution on the labial mucosal of rat's lower lip and treated with duku seed extract gel twice a day for four days and taking 2 ml of blood was taken before and after treatment in the orbital sinus. The number of neutrophil cells was counted using a hematology analyzer and statistically analyzed. Results: The results showed that there was a decrease in the number of neutrophil cells in the 5% catfish oil gel group by 6.2% and the greatest increase in the number of neutrophil cells occurred in the 20% catfish oil gel group by 13.2%, followed by the control group. positive by 10.6%, 10% catfish oil gel group by 10.2%, and negative control group by 8.4%. Conclusion: The average decrease in the number of neutrophil cells was seen in the 5% pain fish oil gel group, but statistically the decrease was not significant. There was no significant difference in the number of neutrophil cells between the treatment group and the control group on the 4th day after application.
