Abstract

Wounds can cause damage or loss of continuity of body tissues. Plants used in wound healing are derived from bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) which acts as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial. This study aims to obtain the best formula for spray gel on the healing of open wounds. The ethanol extract of bay leaf was characterized by extract.preparation spray gel , the concentration of the ethanol extract was varied by 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Preparation of spray Gel preparations were evaluated and data were analyzed to obtain the best formula. The results of the characterization of the extract showed the presence of flavonoid compounds, water content of 6%, water soluble extract content of 53.34%, ethanol soluble extract content of 76.67%, total ash content and acid insoluble 2.16% and 0.18%, contamination microbial contamination by 0 %, and metal contamination by 0%. The best formula for spray gel with the highest percent healing was found at a concentration of 25% with adhesion value > 60 seconds, pH 4.667 ± 0.00471, viscosity 757 cPs, pump delivery 0.093 ± 0.00471 g, spraying pattern 1.100 ± 0.0816 cm, washability 2.46 ± 0.0471 mL, and has a wound healing effect within 12 days. Based on the research result , it can be concluded that the best formula has good dosage characteristics and has activity to accelerate the healing of open wounds. Keywords: open wound, bay leaf, spray-gel, carbopol®940.
