Abstract

The research about adsorption and reduction of hexavalent chromium use bituminous coal fforn Tanjung Enim, South of Sumatera has been done. The process of adsorption and reduction of Cr (VI) used coal with interaction time variation (1, 3, 5, 10, 15 days), variation of weight (1 + 10, 1 + 20, 1 + 30, 1 + 40, 1 + 50 gram/mL), and initial concentration of hexavalent chromium (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 ppm). Hexavalent chromium remaind and total chromium in solution were measured using the Visible Spectrophotometer and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The result showed that optimum interaction time was 15 days, variation of weight between coal with chromium solution on optimum was 1 + 10 (gram/mL), and initial concentration of hexavalent chromium optimum was 75 ppm.
