Abstract

Self-esteem is one of the important aspects in personality because it is one of the factors that determine individual behavior to be positive or negative. This study aims to determine the difference in self-esteem between science and social studies students in class XI at SHS Number 10 Ogan Ilir. This type of research is comparative. The population of this study were all students of class XI at SHS Number 10 Ogan Ilir which amounted to 146 students. The sample taken in this study amounted to 60 students using the proportional stratified random sampling technique. The data collection tool uses a self-esteem scale. Analysis of the data used is the T-test. The self-esteem of the students of class XI majoring in science obtained an average percentage of 81% in the high category, while the self-esteem of students in class XI majoring in social studies obtained an average percentage of 78% in the high category. T-test calculation results obtained a significance value of 0.081, which means that there is no significant difference in self-esteem between students majoring in science and social studies class XI. The conclusion of this study is that self-esteem between students majoring in science and social studies class XI are both in the high category, which differs in the average percentage where students majoring in science are superior.
