Abstract
This article examines the securitization efforts that carried out by stakeholders in South Sumatra to overcome drug smuggling and trafficking from abroad in the rivers of South Sumatra . Many countries are being exploited in the involvement from producer to consumer , including Indonesia . South Sumatra as one of the provinces with the highest prevalence of drug addiction in Indonesia has also been used by foreign drug suppliers as the main market for drug distribution . Recently , a new trend of drug smuggling was detected , now drugs are being smuggled into South Sumatra through rivers with minimal supervision . The focus of this research is to look at securitization efforts to fight drug smuggling and trafficking in the South Sumatra river by South Sumatran stakeholders . Using securitization theory , this research will describe the securitization process that start with speech actof the securitization actors , referent object , moral and formal support , to extraordinary measures . This research found that there was a securitizing move regarding drug smuggling in the rivers of South Sumatra by stakeholders ( securitization actors ) in South Sumatra , as well as speech acts and extraordinary measures they took to eliminate this problem ( the existential threat ) . Then it was found that there were both moral ( society / public ) and formal ( group / formal institutions ) support . However , this securitization effort cannot be said to be successful , considering that a significant decrease in the number of drug smuggling and distribution in South Sumatra has not yet been detected rivers , Keywords : drug smuggling , extraordinary measures , referent object , securitization , south sumatra , speech act
