Abstract

Nutrient intake is intake derived from food consumed daily. If the body lacks nutritional intake, it can affect the body's immunity weakening and be susceptible to infectious diseases. Inadequate and long-lasting nutrient intake in toddlers can trigger stunting. Stunting is a condition where the height does not match the age. Stunting can usually be detected when toddlers are over 2 years old. According to the 2018 Riskesdas data, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is 30.8%, which means that the stunting problem has become a public nutrition problem that must be addressed immediately. The impact of stunting is that it can interfere with cognitive and motor development in toddlers, as well as non-optimal body postures as adults (shorter than in general). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutrient intake and infectious diseases with the incidence of stunting. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The respondents were 51 people, who were selected by purposive sampling. The data were processed by statistical tests and analyzed by univariate and bivariate. The results of this study indicate that the variables of carbohydrate intake (p-value = 0,013), protein intake (p-value = 0,005), calcium intake (p-value = 0,007), iron intake (p-value = 0,046) and infectious diseases ( p-value = 0,034) associated with the incidence of stunting in toddler. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between nutrient intake and infectious diseases with the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months in Tanjung Kepayang Village, Banyuasin Regency in 2022. Based on this, the researcher suggests to mothers of toddlers to be able to apply good portions of food according to the daily needs of toddlers so that they are able to maintain good nutritional status. It is also recommended to maintain environmental sanitation in order to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases such as flu and cough in toddlers.
