Abstract
The failure of eggs hatching could be caused of the fungal Saprolegnia sp. This occurence can reduce the amount of fish fingerling production. One of natural ingredients that has the ability as an antifungal is betle leaf extract (Piper betle L). The purpose of this study to determine the betle leaf extract concentration to prevent the growth of the fungal Saprolegnia sp. ini the eggs incubation media of kissing gourami (Helostoma temminckii) without intefering fish embryo development. This results was carried out at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in March-September 2021. The research method used completely randomized design (CRD) using five treatments and three replications, namely P0- (negative control) concentration 0 mg L-1 without betle leaf extract, P0+ (positive control) concentration 0 mg L-1 with betle leaf extract, P1: concentration 120 mg L-1, P2: concentration 160 mg L-1 P3: concentration 200 mg L-1 with betle leaf extract. The results shower that P1 (120 mg L-1) was the highest percentage of eggs hatching (86,66%) with the lowest Saprolegnia sp. 13,34% and the period of hatching percentage for 1317 minutes. The results of water quality measurement were, temperature 25.5-29.4°C, pH 6.0-7.1, dissolved oxygen 5.0-5.7 mg L-1 and ammonia 0.2304-0.6112 mg L-1.
