Abstract
This research was aimed to design a candlenut shell cracker machine for home industrial use that easy to use. This research was conducted from November 2018 until March 2019 at Machinery Laboratory of Agricultural Technology Department, Agricultural Faculty, Sriwijaya University. The method used was engineering design. This research used six treatments. The first up to third treatment used 2 cm roll distance and fourth up to sixth treatments used 1.8 cm roll distance. Data was presented by using tables, figures and graphs. The parameters of this research were the machine capacity, the cracking output percentage, fuel consumption, and cracking efficiency. The results of this research showed that the highest machine capacity was 116.13 kg/hour. The highest percentage of intact kernel, half cracked kernel, broken kernel, and sticked kernel respectively were 2.33% (sixth treatment), 5.41% (first treatment), 14.71% (fifth treatment), and 27.40% (second treatment). The average fuel consumption was 2.90 liters/hour.
