Abstract
Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent exposure to free radicals. Free radicals can cause damage to body cells so it is necessary to use antioxidants. This research was conducted from August 2021 to December 2021. Sampling was carried out in the Tugu Mulya area, Kebun Tebu District, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. The methods used in this study include extraction, fractionation, vacuum liquid chromatography, purification of compounds using column chromatography, classification of compounds, and determination of IC50 values using the DPPH method. The results obtained from this study are extraction yields of 21.38% methanol extract. The results of the liquid-liquid fractionation obtained the n-hexane fraction yield of 21.30%, ethyl acetate fraction 59.05%, and methanol 9.02%. The results of the antioxidant activity test using a TLC plate, the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions have stronger antioxidant activity than the methanol fraction. The conclusion of this study is that the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions of Sembung (Blumea balsamifera (L.) DC) leaves contain terpenoid, steroid and tannin compounds, have antioxidant activity classified as very strong, strong, moderate and weak.
