Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine that solar energy can be used as supported energy (partial substitution) of the main electrical energy for powering hydroponic pump. The research was conducted on March to July 2019 in in Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agricultural, Sriwijaya University. The research was consisted of five phase: determined the power of hydroponic pump, calculated the theoretical power, prepared the solar panel with Grid Tie Inverter, collected data from solar panel and PLN then processed the data. The research used polycyrstaliline silicon solar panel with tilt angle 30° and the main parameters were power from solar panel, main electrical power, panel efficiency and sunlight intensity. The supported parameters were temperature, humidity, fill factor, solar panel surface area, flow capacity and total electricity used. The result showed that substitution energy between PLN electricity and electrical energy produced by polycrystalline silicon solar panel used Grid Tie Inverter can work well and can decreased the utilization of electrical energy for powered NFT hydroponic pump. Polycrystalline silicon solar panel was capable of substituted PLN electricity usage of 1.584,68 Watts or 56,4% of the total electricity needs to powered hydroponic pump. Polycrystalline silicon solar panels was able to work in cloudy conditions and generated power of 21,86 Watt, the highest efficiency produced by polycrystalline silicon solar panels was 5,36%. The utilization of solar panel as a power for the substitution of the main electrical energy PLN should be done when the weather was not too much rain so that the efficiency resulted was high.
