Abstract

The research area is located in Karangendah v lage, Lengkiti, ogan Komering uru Regency, south Sumatra with total area 25 km2. The purpose of this research is to knorv the geological condition, the characteristic or limestone, the type of lirnestone and the deposition envirorunent. The methods used include field observation (morphorogicar aspects, lithology, geologicar structure, and li'restone characteristics), laboralory analysis (Paleontology and petrology) and studio work so that the final report. The research area is divided into three land forms namery the intense denudational (DK), the tenuous denudational (DL) and the denudational undurating plains (D). The local stratigraphy ofthe research area is divided into six rock units, sorted from the oldest to the youngest, there are: Andesite Kikim Formation, and the Earry Tertiary Tufr rocks forrned by the volcanic activity, the oligocene - Earry Miocene sandstone unit of Talangakar Formation precipitated in delta prain depositionar environment, Baturaja Formation limestone unit deposited during Early to Middte Miocene in the transitional to neritic environment, the sandstone and claystone units ofGumai Formation deposited during Early to Middle Miocene in the Transitional - Neritic environment. The geological structure developed in the research area is joints. The fractures data js analyzed to interpret the stress orientation, and it showed the Northeast-southwest orientation, it is interpreted that the fractures formed by extentional-stress in early tertiary. The limestone characteristics are knowr based on its physical features, the Iitholog)' spread, and petrographic analysis to obtain the types of rimestone namery: Mudstone, wackestone, Packstone, Boundstone and a few crystalline limestone. These limestone types are deposited in the lagoon area, restricted shelI, open sherfand reei.
