Abstract
Boric acid is a weak acid derivative of boron and the form of a white powder. This study aims to optimize the reaction between boric acid and pyridoxine through the effect of time temperature, and the effect of the amount of pyridoxine on the formation of boron complexes using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The research began with optimization of boric acid and pyridoxine derivatization where the maximum wavelength of pyridoxine was in the 205 nm and 292 nm while the maximum length of the boron pyridoxine complex was obtained in the 241 nm. Based on the effective time the optimum used is 50 minutes, the effect of temperature is that the optimum temperature is 60˚C, easily released and on the influence of the amount of pyridoxine, the optimum amount of pyridoxine was obtained as much as 3 mL to achieve the optimum reaction for the formation of the boron-pyridoxine complex. Based on the FTIR spectrum of the boron-pyridoxine complex, there is a B-OH group at a wavelength of 881-1278 cm-1, the B-O group with a wavelength of 1.193-1278 cm-1 and the O-H group at a wavelength of 3.215-2.248 cm-1. The results of the XRD characterization of the boron-pyridoxine complex obtained a boron diffraction angle of 32.59˚ while the diffraction angle of pyridoxine was 15.43˚.
