Abstract

Background: Cancer or malignancy is a disease characterized by excessive growth of abnormal cells and able to spread to the other body organs. Neutropenic fever is a complication of disease due to basic processes and chemotherapy. Leukocyte counts, neutrophils counts and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play an important role in the process of malignancy and infection. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between leukocyte and neutrophil counts with neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in malignancy patiens with neutropenic fever. Methods: This study is an observational analysis with cross-sectional design. Thirty malignancy patients with neutropenic fever in Pediatric Departement of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang on March until August 2018 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were taken as subjects of this study by using consecutive sampling technique. Leukocyte and neutrophil counts was taken from secondary data of patients and NETs level was measured by Citrullinated Histone H3 (Clone 11D3) ELISA kit sandwich catalog No.501620. Spearman correlation analysis was used in this study, the result was significant if (p<0,05). Result: The results of this study shows there was no significant correlation between leukocyte (p=0,207;r=0,273) and neutrophil (p=0,388;r=189) counts with neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in malignancy patients with neutropenic fever. Conclusion: There were no significant correlation between leukocyte and neutrophil counts with neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in malignancy patients with neutropenic fever.
