Abstract

The study aimed to find out how good was the speaking performance of the seventh semester students of English Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University, and whether there was any significant correlation between the openness personality and their speaking performances. The results of the speaking test showed most of the students were good in the speaking performance. Students had learn pronunciation and speaking interaction academically, so it was reasonable that they were good in the speaking test. After that, the openness personality questionnaire found out that mostly students included in the intermediate category. Students neither opened-minded nor closed-minded of accepting new idea since they knew that they should respect other ideas in language learning. Last but not least, the study analyzed that there was no correlation between students’ openness personalities and their speaking performances. Therefore the openness personality trait was not influenced the English speaking performance.
