Abstract

Ogan Ilir District (9,3%) had fat prevalence rate of children which aged 5-12 years that was greater than Palembang (7.5%). 5 Indralaya Elementery School had many street vendors that sold around the school and school children were allowed to eat snacks there. This study aimed to factors associated with the behavior of snacks consumption on school children in 5 Indralaya Elementery School. This study was a quantitative with cross-sectional study design used simple random sampling that the sample of respondents was 120 which accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Analysis of study data used univariate and bivariate analysis with chisquare test. Most students showed not frequent to consumption snacks (50.8%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there were significant correlations between large of pocket money, parents income, peer influence, parental influence with the behavior of snacks consumption. While there were no significant correlations between the habit of bringing food supplies, breakfast habit, the influence of television advertising, knowledge and habit to skip the main meal with the behavior of snack consumption (p> 0,05). Suggestions of this study is students get use to breakfast and bring food supplies from home to school, fill the stomach when hungry in school, so pocket money that provided by parents isn’t entirely spent on snacks but can be used for useful things such as saving.
