Abstract

The research of Darrieus water turbine with six blades combination of NACA 0015 and 0025 was done in water flow at one of irrigation gate in Gumawang, South Sumatera. Three blades of NACA 0015 and 0025 airfoils were set at different position making six blades Darrieus water turbine. The water velocity was 0.606 m/s and turbine had solidity 0.382. The result of this research shows that this turbine had the limit of operation tip speed ratio ranged from 1.51 to 3.22 and the maximum efficiency is 13.48 % at tip speed ratio 1.56. The result is compared to the three blade Darrieus water turbine of NACA 0015 which has the operation tip speed ratio range from 1.55 to 2.85 and maximum efficiency 13.36 % at tip speed ratio 1.97. So a small increase of efficiency and a decrease of speed at maximum efficiency were observed for this kind of turbine.
